Day 52: 21/8/12
I didnt have to get up early either this morning- I'm having a right lazy time in Ushuaia! Got up in time to check out. Headed down the town for a while and looked for a few souvenirs. I tried going to the Museo del fin del munda again but it was closed again. Don't know if I've been at the right door or not- I've been at two different places. Perhaps it's closed! I know one of the other museums was closed for July and August, so maybe that is aswell!
I went back to the hostel and had time then to ring Shell and check in on the holidays. Coverage wasn't great but we figured it out!
Left for the airport in plenty of time. Leaving me two hours before check in. The flight ended up being delayed for two hours so I had four hours to kill In a tiny airport! Thank God there are books on the iPhone!! If only they had endless batteries then I would be fine!! I read, did some sodoku, read, did some sodoku...... Eventually it was time to board!
The flight itself was only an hour and twenty minutes so it flew! The views from the plane were cool- lots of snow! The image above is from the plane- obviously its sideways. The sun was just starting to set and you could see it going down through the clouds. There were only a small number of people on the plane and not even all of those were getting off- some were going to Buenos Aires. So we were all off the plane with our bags fairly quickly!
Got a taxi to the hostel (during the drive I was trying to get a photo of the moon which was a really bright perfect crescent, but because the car was moving i now have photos of white stripes!) and checked in. The receptionist wanted to know why i didnt have any Spanish (i wonder myself sometimes!!) and said he lived in Dublin for a year. Other than that he hadnt much to say! Because of the flight delay it was already after eight and dark by the time I got here and the hostel is a bit away from the centre so I just hung around the hostel. There were a good few people around the hostel anyway. There was an English girl in the room- finally someone who speaks English!! Her boyfriend is there too and another English girl- they must have put the English speaking people together!
Everybody spent some time in the general area where i was sorting out emails and stuff as my account wouldn't work for the last few days. I have it sorted now! When I came back everyone was going to bed! Will have to chat to them tomorrow!
Padraig I only realised now that you were commenting on the last few blogs. The comments don't come up for me unless I click through every blog, better to leave a message! I love the maddona-esque style- definitely a quote for the future! You're right of course about Eire!! Whatever chance they have of understanding Ireland, I think Eire is a lost cause. Even though one English guy on a trip in la Paz asked me if I was from Eire! Also, an Argentinian man on a Salta trip asked where I was from and when I said Ireland I could swear he said- oh the English are b*****ds! I could have misheard him and he had practically no English but I think thats what he said!! Thanks for looking up the war too!! There definitely was one from the photos they had! Seems like the English were involved in it too!!
