The journey continues--each moment is exciting--each turn on the road, I wonder what will I see next. Today was extraordinary--with visits to Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove.
Hot Water Beach
Some volcanos develop huge underground reservoirs of superheated water. Over time, this water will escape to the surface — cooling on the way. There are two fissures at Hot Water Beach issuing water as hot as 64ºC (147ºF) at a rate as high as 15 litres/minute. This water contains large amounts of salt (NOT salt water), calcium, magnesium, potassium, fluorine, bromine and silica.
It was pretty amazing arriving shortly before low tide and digging a hole to let the water come up. The water was HOT and we sat there for about 2 hours nattering away with other tourists and locals. It was a natural hot tub experience.
Cathedral Cove is majestic. The walk took us about 45 minutes--up and down and through the most beautiful areas. Once at erh Cove, we ere so happy that we actually made the trek. A magical place with turquoise watrers and a wonderful surf to play in.
