So here we are Queensland Australia.First stop Cairns. we spent a week here. weather absolutely beautiful, if slightly on th hot side, considering we just missed a huge flood here by mere days. snorkled and dived on the grat barrier reef from here. scary, but lived to tell the tail. As if that wasnt enough we went white water rafting in flood waters down the barren river in cairns, we all managed to stay in side the boat. having said that we would probably been drier had we fallen in. we also took a day trip to one of the many beaches north of cairns, called palm cove.
After Cairns we started to make our way south. Our next stop was. Magnetic Island. Here we saw more stunning beaches and went on a bush walk to find Koalas. We also had our first Oz BBQ here. We stayed her two Days. On the day we left we got caught in a tropical rain storm. we thought we were lucky to see it as it only rains here something like 5 days out of the 365. turns out the rain fopllowed us to our next stop, Airlie Beach.
Airlie beach was our base to do the Whitsundays from. we stayed here for two nights before going sailing, waiting for the weather to clear. We stayed over night on the sailing boat in a place called turtle bay. On our first day we went snorkling. On the second morning we woke up early to go to the famous whitehaven beach. Here we had a close shark encounter. ok so it was only about four to five feet long but it was still a shark! on the way back to airlie beach the wind picked up and we were able to sail the whole way back to the harbour.
From Airlie beach we took a night bus to a place called 1770. This was only a small town but was lovely place to spend a couple of days. we had our first surf lesson here. think we might need a few more. We also went Scottarooing. This was a chopper (smaller motorbikes) tour were we saw the sights surrounding 1770. We saw wild kangaroos and the only sunset over the water on the east coast.
After 1770 we stayed in Bunderberg for one night. we stayed here to go to a turtle reserve, mon repos. Here we saw baby turtles (hatchlings) worked their way up from the nest and make their way to the sea. Alot could be said for the accomodation for that night but we wont go into that. Next stop. Hervey Bay.
Hervey bay was our base from which to go off roading on frazer Island. Hervey bay itself was something to see.
We spent two nights on frazer Island, in tents. We all can now say we've driven a 4x4. here we saw some of the worlds most beautiful sights. We spent some time at lake MacKenzie a large fresh water lake. We also saw wild Dingos, climbed to indian heads were we saw sharks, saw a large ship wreak left on the beach and walked down a fresh water creek. the two days went without a hitch, until ten minutes before we were due to leave the jeep back. we got a flat tyre, in the middle of a dual carrage way. Talk about causing a scene!
After hervey bay and Frazer Island. we headed to a place called Noosa Heads. We spent one night here.
Next was Mooloolaba. from here we went to Australia zoo. it was raining the day we went to the zoo, so there was nothing else for it.... Rain ponchos!!!
Then came brisbane. we stayed in brisbane for five nights. Pretty much sight seeing!! next stop New South Wales.
