Walked through Sydney the past two days. Started in Potts Point and headed through Kings Cross towards the city center. Kings Cross has the reputation of the center for drugs, prostitutes, partying and backpackers. It was very evident when every other shop on the street was an "adult store". I think my favorite store name was"The Pleasure Chest" - and actually seems to be a chain of stores since I encountered another one on Oxford St.
Got down to the CBD (central business district) and had lunch in the Queen Victoria Building. (That's the Oz 2 O water and kebab pictured above). After lunch I thought I headed in the right direction for the Opera House, but ended up doing a loop through Hyde Park which took me, oddly enough on Boomerang Place, back to Williams St (where I had started!). Although I got lost, I think my internal GPS is starting to kick-in and I'll be buzzing around town soon.
I got my bearings back and successfully navigated my way down to Circular Quay (pronounced "key") and the Sydney Opera House (SOH). Took a few pictures there too. Headed in and connected with Phil whom has an open room in his flat in Ultimo. So, I started to head over to Pyrmont via the Darling Harbour foot bridge near Cockle Bay Warf. Took a stroll past the new office, but didn't go in, and made my way to Ultimo. As I did, I ended up getting caught in a sprinkle "storm", but remained mostly dry.
Place in Ultimo was nice. Near the Broadway shopping center and grocery & across the street from Wentworth Park. Only down sides were that I didn't see to many places to eat close by and it was really close to the Uni.
On my way home my feet were aching so badly! Several times in the journey back I thought I should get a taxi, but never got one. Once I got back in the flat jet lag was setting in, but I had to try to stay awake as long as possible. So I decided to go to sleep only when my head kept rolling around as I nodded off and actually hit the wall behind the sofa. Ouch!
Day two in Sydney was less exciting so I'll spare you details about where I walked - although it wasn't very far since my little legs were worn out from the day before.
