Road trip - day 10 - Monday
Mums birthday!
Today is chilly & raining with exceptionally low cloud ..... but it is the day we decide to visit Switzerland.
Again it's a late start, we take a ride into Pontarlier & arrive just after noon; the Tourism office of course is closed until 2pm. Wifi will have to wait!!
We set off to see what Lake Neuchatel has to offer. The road is very pretty even in the rather bad weather, at times we are in the cloud. There are times when it's steep going, but really not too bad. Travel around 60 miles.
Near to Neuchatel we take a wrong turn & end up on a road with road works - no chance of an easy return ... but we are at least near to the lake! We park up & set off in the drizzle ... veering towards a restaurant bar where very helpfully we get the wifi access code & spend the next half an hour or more over a coffee & NA beer engrossed in technology & making brief contact with the outside would! On leaving we set off towards the lake.
The scenery would have been spectacular if the weather had been kind; as it was we saw interesting birds, including nesting swans & swarms of midges. We did a tour towards the marina & gave up - the midges won!!
We headed back to the car & set off back over the border to France heading towards Leclerc for a spot of shopping. On the way back into Pontarlier the car had a wobble; it cut out & engine management lights came on. George cleared them with his magic dongle - hopefully that will be the last we see of them!!!!
Tourist information wasn't too much help, I couldn't get internet, although G could. We needed to take shopping back to the Gite but I made a lovely birthday phone call to mum before we set off. We decided on tea out & tried an Indian we had seen on the out of town retail park. We had samosas, onion rings, naan & veg biriyani. Lovely but filling.
Back to the Gite & decided that we need to investigate Switzerland further .... Lausanne sounds lovely! A visit to the train station is called for in morning!!
