On 12 July we had a drive into Krakow and found that a popular way to visit this city is on golf carts. So we hopped on one and had a drive through the old town and Jewish Quarter. After that we had a walk around the main market square, it's Europe's largest medieval town square, measuring 200m x 200m with a 15th century town-hall. In the centre of the square is the old cloth hall which is now filled with shops selling a lot of locally made souvenirs - many different to what you see anywhere else.
You can go underneath the square to the Rynek Underground. Between 2005 and 2010 there was an archaeological dig in the main square which uncovered a treasure trove of artefacts from medieval times. These are now on display underneath the square. The museum takes you through the old medieval market stalls, showing you how life used to be. You can see the layers in the rock walls that show the different civilisations through time. There is also a huge slab of lead on display, weighing 693kg - lead was a highly precious metal at the time.
We both really liked Krakow; it had a lively atmosphere to it. The main square had lots of music and different performers to entertain you. We also visited the local chocolate shop where they make the chocolate on site (Cara was very excited by this).
We met a lovely family from the Netherlands in the caravan park at Krakow and Cara became very good friends with their little boy who is five.
The next day we left Krakow and headed over the border into Czech Republic.
