The day started with the Lord Mayor's Parade, an annual event that is basically a big parade. It was neat...a lot of marching bands, military, and unions. Not many for profit companies or politicians! I have some good video, but my internet connection must be weak becuase they are taking forever to upload. The parade was very 'well done' as the Brits like to say.
After the parade I stopped in for about 3 minutes to the British Museum followed by the National Gallery. Both are free and both were packed. I know it is a large city and a tourist destination, but I can't believe how packed the city is with people. If this is what it is like in November, I don't want to know what June is like. And the people are from all over the world. I hear more foreign languages then I hear English. I also went...and stayed...at the National Portrait Gallery, which was great.
I stopped by the theatre playing Les Mis, but both shows for today were told out. They had standing room only tickets, but my feet were done!
Finally, I went to Mass at a church close to where I'm staying. I took a couple picture; it was really unique. Before Mass they were praying a rosary, and after every Hail Mary they said something that I had never heard before. And at one point they all stood up...not sure what that was about either. Most surprising...no music. I'm didn't even see an organ.
Once again, I'm totally exhausted by 7pm. Good to know the time in the gym is paying off...not. Since when did standing and walking get so damn difficult?
Couple intersting things: little kids in London use scooters when they are out walking with their parents. I've seen at least 10 of them. I used my ipad to take some pics at the parade, as well as to read a tour at the national portrait gallery. In two days, I have not seen another person use an ipad. I see them everywhere back home.
Weather today was overcast and drizzly in the monring. Temps again around 50. Not a bad day.
Tentative plan for tomorrow is Wimbleton and Hampton Court Palace (home of Hery VIII)
