Cheers Mates! It is 8:00pm London time, and I'm beyond exhaused but determined to keep up with this blog.
Flight was fine, just soooo long. I slept off and on for about 4 hours, not nearly as well as I had hoped. I arrived at the hotel around 2, chlled out for an hour, then headed out to explore the neighborhood. Hyde Park is nearby and absolutely goregous. It reminds me of Central Park. Kensington Palace is in Hyde Park, and it is unimpressive from the exterior. Next, I hiked over the the Victoria and Albert Museum, which was awesome. It is best known for textile art, so some great fashion displaces, furniture, tapestries, jewelry, etc. I could have spent hours but after an hour or so I was too tired to enjoy it.
That, along with a trip to a grocery for supplies, was it for today. The hotel is nice and very traditional. It is independent...maybe 25 or so rooms. I'm on the 5th floor with no elevator (and very narrow, steep, and winding stairs.) The neighborhood is very nice, the room is clean and I feel safe.
Weather was fantastic today...probably low 50s with overcast and some sun. British people are very kind and willing to help me make change when I buy something. One guy actually said to me without a hint of condensation when I looked at the pile of coins in my hand, "two of the big ones and one of the small ones."
The plan for tomorrow is the Lord Mayor's show, the largest parade of the year in London! Google it if you want to know more. I may go for a show tomorrow night if I feel I have myself in the right time zone. I'm sure I"ll find other things along the way. Good night Gov. (I actually heard a guy say that.)
