We arrived in Mancora after a night bus from Lima where we splashed out and got ourselves cama seats which meant we had a pretty good nights sleep on the 16 hour journey. We were definitely not disappointed when we arrived in the sunshine. It was all we needed after the strenuous week on the Inca Trail. The beach and a good book was definitely in order for a few days.
We stayed in a dodgy place the first night, which I think Bob and Vivienne will most definitley agree with! But it was worth it because of the gem of a hostel we found the next day. We booked into La Casa Tourista which was a hostel that thought it was more like a ship...which was perfect because we got the room on the top deck so we were able to see the whole beach and the most beautiful sunsets! Bob and Vivienne booked into a hotel right on the beach which was gorg too (but we had to remember our backpacker budget),and it worked out great because everyday we were able to go down to them and use the facilities of the hotel and grab a lounger on the beach. So we had the best of both worlds!!
Mancora was the first place that we actually did nothing for 5 whole days besides go surfing, eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and sample all the cocktails! It was heaven and did our weary bodies the world of good. The fish that we had here was the best we have had since we've been away. We made a point to have some everyday as the chances of getting it this good again were slim. Fresh tuna, swordfish, prawns and seabass everyday is not a bad way to live and especially for the price,we reckoned we were getting a good deal!
It was such a lovely place and the longer we stayed there, the friendlier we found the people and the place to be...except the annoying tuk tuk drivers who beep at you every second to try get a fair. All in all we had a ball in Mancora and would definitely recommend anyone going to Peru to not miss out on this place....365 days of sunshine is not a place to be missed out on!! Before too long it was time for Bob and Vivienne to head back on the night bus to Lima to catch their flight back to Ireland and it was time for us to think about crossing the border into Ecuador. Not before we spent 3 more days after the others left on the beach though....just to finalise our plans we told ourselves! But time as always was against us and we headed on yet another night bus to Guayaquil in Ecuador where we decided to head on towards another surf spot called Montanita.
Mancora Done!!
