COLCA CANYON
FIRST DAY
We were picked up at 6 in the morning from our hotel by a representative of the agency and drove for about 5 hours to the Cabonaconde. Along this journey we drove over a pass that is over 4,800 m /15,748 Ft. On the way we stopped at the famous Condor Cross where we were able to see some condors and take in the beautiful landscape. We arrived in Cabanaconde at around 11 o clock. Upon arrival, we had lunch at the little village. Afterwards we started to descend to the Canyon, following a winding path that leads down to the bottom of the Canyon where we reached the village of Llahuar around 5 oclock. At this village we had some free time to explore some parts of the Colca Canyon and afterwards we had dinner under a very starry night. Overnight at the village of Llahuar was great and our little huts were quite an experience.
SECOND DAY
After breakfast we continued our trek throughout the Canyon till the village of Paclla and the Natural Lookout point of Apachetas (piles of stones place on one another, in a vertical way, used by Andean people as signals or to mark the road). This part of the trek was particularly tough as it was all up!! We walked for about 5 hours till we arrived at the gorgeous and peaceful town of Sangalle, where we had lunch and in the afternoon we went swimming in a nice pool called The Oasis. We had a siesta in the afternoon and then had dinner in the evening. We were in bed early because we were up at 4 to start our climb to Cabonaconde.
THIRD DAY
We were up early for breakfast before starting the ascent to Cabanaconde. It took us around three hours to reach the top. We then went for short walk and explored the village. We took the bus to Chivay where we relaxed and had lunch and then headed for Arequipa. We arrived in Arequipa around 7 in the evening. The whole trek was amazing. The scenery was breathtaking and the weather was fantastic for us.Another real highlight of our trip!!
