BEACH PARTYYYY!!!!!
The next day we were up at 5.30 with breckfast on the bus. It was an average journey, although Swampy got a fine for being to heavy (despite us all running to the front of the bus to try to make it lighter) and I slept most of the way. After a few hours we arrived at Paciffic Ocean for the first time. It was great to see the sea and to make matters even more impressive, we were also travelling through a desert with impressive Turkey Vultures flying overhead. We were driving along the pan american highway, one of the driest deserts in the world. A few windy roads later we arrived at Puerto Inca beach.
The beach was incredible. It was formed by a pair of small perfect bays with Inca ruins near by, but the campsite also had a pool, a park, a "discoteque" and a resteraunt. We set up our tents on the sand and then ran to the sea, which had the best waves I have ever seen. It was great fun to know that nearly 2 months ago i was sitting on Copacabana beach with my feet in the Atlantic Ocean, and now i was sitting in a deloate beach in Peru, with my feet in the Pacific. The waves were stupidly powerful though. I got knocked flying sveral times, even though I was only up to my knees in water, and then actually thought I was drowning a few times as we got a bit deeper. I got completely wiped out about 3 times, where my little boyd just got dragged under the water bythe current and i was pulled, tugged, pinched and generally manhandled by the power of the waves. I know I´ve said it many times before, but this had to be one of the highlights of the trip, despite the cuts and bruises. We had some lunch on the beach then had a dip in the pool to get rid of the salt water, before the Swampy v Doris touch rugby tournament. We had previously beetwen Doris at Football so the stakes were quite high. But with a truck load of people who´d never really played rugby, we didn´t stand much chance, although we did hold our own somewhat!
The game actually started to get a bit nasty.... there´d ben a bit of truck rivalary building up for a while, but when a boy deliberately knocked one of girls flying, we decided to call it a day. Back on the beach, some of the guys started getting our barbeques ready with the music cranked-up on the truck soundsystem. After dinner we toasted marshmallows on the campfire and then partied the night away on the beach (with the occassional break from partying on the fantastic adult sized swings and see-saws)!
It was an amazing night and there´s not much more I can say about except that it makes me feel so sad that these last few days are over.... they have been the best of my life!
