I'd paid an extra £70 to fly back to joburg fri afternoon rather than get the 7hour bus, and that I also meant I could do morning drive....as it was my lat drive it needed to be a good one!!
The hyaenas had been calling all night as they could small the stinky eland remains . Koo's was keen for us to take it out as bait but we managed to convince him otherwise!
Having seen acacia, mufti & the cub last night, this morning we heading out in search of mbhurri & his girls (selati, mica & matumi)
After about 2 hours if driving around we'd found nothing - was beginning to think we should have bought the eland after all!
We had parked up & were talking about birds (i've started to be able to identify the different types instead of 'just a brown one') while today's navigator tried for signal when I looked up & spotted a lion running at 9o clock. We moved forward but she ran round the coppie. As we turned round I then spotted another lion, and then another! Am getting a good at this lion spotting!!! We were able to identify it was selati, mica & matumi and they were on the hunt. We only saws them for a five minutes or so but it was worth it
Soon we were back at base & I needed to frantically pack the rest of my things (& donate all that won't fit in my case) before heading to hoedspurit airport. The plane was delayed 2 hours but gave me chance to catch up on the blog as I've been so busy this week.
The airport is little more than a cafe & gift shop, and security checks consist of a security guard asking if I've got a knife before boarding the miniature plane. For anyone flying from hoedspruit to Jo'burg sit on the left seat A) - is an amazing view of the panarama route inc blyde canyon & gods window (and this time was no cloud so I could enjoy the view!)
Am now checked into my hotel for the night. I have s superking bed (/and no roommates), a warm shower (without the queue) & a pool (without the pond life). Is very quiet though - not used to silence these days!!!
