And so.................................. my final blog from Oz.
Will try to keep it short ( I know I say that at the start of each one!). So I left you all with me heading out for a sailing trip around the Whitsundays which was fantastic and the weather superb, lots of snorkelling, lazing around, sunbathing and visiting amazing beaches! Definately a top moment in Oz. After the trip I managed to bag myself a job at a backpackers travel agency for 2 weeks helping out. This was just to pass the time until I met up woth my mates from the Kiwi Experience and we headed up to Magnetic Island for a Full Moon Party. V. nice setting and a good night but defiantely doesn't look as good as the Full Moon Soph went to in Thailand!
From here I headed up to Cairns to meet my mum which I had been very excited for since I can't remember when! We spent a day in Cairns around the town centre and then flew down to Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays where our water taxi was awating us. We then spent 5 very relaxed days chilling by the pool, drinking cocktails, eating delicious food and reading. It was a lovely week and the weather stayed bright for us which was good as I think Jan may have cried if it had chucked it down like the good old British summer. From Hamilton we flew back up to Cairns and then drove an hour up the road to Port Douglas. An absolutely gorgeous little town full of nice restaurants and a lovely beach. Our first day we sat on the beach spotting Humpback Whales and topping up the tan - no great photies though im afraid - they're too quick!
Second day we took a 4WD tour to the Daintree River, cruised along crocodile infested waters and strolled along Cape Tribulation beach where the River meets the Rainforest. unfortunately it was a bit grey and drizzly but I thought this only added to the tropical setting we were in!
Our final day was spent abord Poseidon, our outer reef snorkelling experience! It started off as a bit of a drizzly day but turned out quite sunny which was great for the amazing snorkelling in 3 parts of the Great Barrier Reef. Saw lots of illuminous fish and trillions of Nemos which was great, didn't manage a shark sighting though which was a bit of a shame ( I think jan was quite glad!).
So, Jan's currently on her way back to the UK sob sob and I'm here in Cairns for 2 nights then its Bali on Sunday! It's all getting very close to hometime now,
Lotsa love anna x
