G'day folks!
Just a little installment to let you know what i've been up to! So last time i blogged i was up in darwin enjoying the heat. Enjoyed a fantastic 3 day adventure into the Kakadu National Park which as you can all see from the photos involved a lot of crocodile watching ( all very scary!). From Darwin i flew to Sydney to start my journey up the East Coast. Landing in Sydney i was greeted with blue skies and headed straight down to the harbour to take some snaps! Good Job, as from then on it was torrential rain for the whole 6 days! managed to see a few films at the Sydney Film Festival and sample some bars ( well what else is there to do on a wet day!). Despite the weather i had a great time and my old room mate from Disney flew out to join me so we had lots of fun!
So, Greyhound pass purchased I took the overnight bus to Coffs Harbour, 12hours down the road and what a difference. It was so warm and sunny! I met up with my friends from Melbourne Chris & Liam and we wandered round the little town and saw Dolphins down at the harbour. Next day we went on to join another friend at Byron Bay. Blue skies stayed and we chilled on the beach soaking up the sun. We stayed at an amazing backpackers called Arts Factory which was very hippie-esque and slept in Teepees ( freezing!), all good fun though. We took a day tour to Nimbin, the "Amsterdam" of Australia which was interesting! and then on the final day i trekked up to the lighthouse ( in the rain this time!boo!) which is the most easterly point of the Australian Mainland.
I left the boys in Byron and headed to Surfers Paradise which was such a beautiful beach but very touristy - a bit of a classier Blackpool i guess. Here i met a friend of a friend randomly and we headed on up to Noosa. When we arrived it was pouring and we prayed that night for sun to enjoy our day at Australia Zoo. Mother Nature was thankfully listening and gave us the most glorious day to enjoy the most amazing zoo i;ve ever seen. The place is huge and there is not one animal in there who is caged in an inappropriate way. They all have such lovely living spaces and Steve Irwins brilliant work is continuing. I had my pic took with a Koala which i was very excited about although it decided it needed the toilet just before my photo so it was mighty stinky and i had to hold its bum that was all pooey, yuk! Spent a day on Noosa beach which was lush and enjoyed a wkd game of frisbee then took the bus to Rainbow Beach for my Fraser Island trip.
Once again i couldn't have asked for better weather for a 3day camping tour on the wholly sand island. We took a 4wd with 10 of us, Me, 2 Germans, 2 French and 5 Israelis. Despite numerous comminication problems it was a brilliant trip and we all bonded over the love of Goon! Our first day was spent swimming in Lake McKenzie which is like bottle water its so clear and tastes so good! Then the evening we met up with 4 other groups and celebrated the full moon over the island which was a brilliant sight. Up early the second day for a drive to Indian Head the top point of the island where we saw whales and babay sharks, wow! We set up camp at the Maheno ship wreck the next night and saw the most beautiful pink sunset! Our final day was met with a car that wouldn't start which was a slight nightmare but a friendly passer by managed to jump start us and we made our way back to the boat terminal.
I'm now at Airlie Beach and have just checked in to do my Whitsundays sailing trip for 2 days starting tmrw. However, sadly my faithfull camera has broken ( sand damage from fraser me thinks!) so you'll have to wait till i'm home to see how the disposables turn out!
Lotsa love to everyone xxx
