Kelly flies back to Ireland today, & I will be very sad to see her go :( We are planning on getting her a taxi to the airport & hoping that the taxi driver will be able to help her to the check in desk with her bags, as she can't carry anything on her back right now. Breakfast was amazing (once again!! Plain old cereal at the hostel is gonna seem mighty boring after this special treatment :P), & our morning visit to the hospital for Kelly's re-dressing was relatively quick. After that we went & had a coffee & took stock of all that had happened over the past few days - phew! Not the ideal Spanish/South France holiday, but c'est la vie!
When Kel left for the airport I was feeling a little low & decided I needed to get out & about for a while. I went & looked around Lafayette (the amazing French department store) & some of the stores along the central square of town, then went for a long walk down Rue des Anglais along the beach front. I had a yummy crepe avec beurre et sucre, & then went & sat on the beach for a while. Now, beaches in Nice are pebbled, not sandy, so it's not exactly the most comfy thing to sit/lie on. I guess that's why so many people pay for seats or deck chairs in the private beach areas, which alternate with public stretches of beach! I dipped my toes in the chilly Mediterranean sea & walked back along the water.
I fended off a very persistent young Frenchman who was intent on taking me for coffee & headed back toward the centre of town. I wanted to pick up a few more gifts from a store I'd been to previously, but upon arriving there I realized I no longer had the bag with the other things I'd bought! :S Gah! So I had to re-buy those as well!! :( I picked up some candles from Lafayette, some yummy sushi & wine from the amazing sushi store down the road from the hotel & went back to relax in style.
After a bubble bath (amazing!!), dinner in bed, & more figure skating viewing, I was feeling a little more relaxed at last! Ready for tomorrow's journey to the land of the fabulously wealthy…Monaco!
