I made it! So i'm now in Bangkok and couldn't love it more!
Arrived at 1 in the morning last night after and 8 hour stopover in Sydney where, no kidding, every second security guard had 'Walzing Matilda' as their rigtone.
After arriving i was picked up by a pre-arranged company tour guide lady and her driver- after ten minuted she already offered me to be her daughter (as she only had about a zillion sons which she found amusing when i tried to pronouce them)- accompanied of course by a stash of family photos she whipped out of her bag with THE cutest kids on it ever! Got talked to her for a while and ends up she is a volunteer with her church promoting awareness of aids and helping its victims- was real cool to talk to her as she sounded so passionate which im presuming was at least partially due to the cirsumstances most of her family members were in as she explained to me later.
Spent the night last night at a hotel but moved into a guest house today which is down some random ally near Khao San Rd which is really cute and will spend a few days here i think while i tour the city and do what i want to do here before heading north. Planning on going to see the Emerald Buddha (thanks tanz!) and a few temples this as well as visiting the weekend markets (if i can fit it all in!) tommorow...
Spent this morning doing countless wandering (and possibly getting lost a zillion times up the identical streets) seeing everything for sale! I think i need to extra bags to take home everything i need, especially clothes! Mind you if i didn't have my vigilent (but much appreciated) travel packing helper (thanks rach1) i would've come with even more stuff and less room for purchases. I've also rediscovered my intense love for pawpaws which was born in the islands....-has been my breakfast and lunch so far today-i'm addicted!
So after only 12 hours i've learnt;
-Thai people are gorgeous and SO helpful!
-Go shopping at 7.00am, you're one of the few awake as everyone else seemed to still be asleep..
-Ronan Keating and every one of his tracks are in the Thai Top 100 bleating out of every resteraunt (you'd love it mum!)
-I look like i want a taxi every 3 seconds-and get asked too
-The food here is to die for.....spring rolls and noodles- so good and only NZ$70cents
Off to organise weekend- but thanks for all the emails and messages on board- will reply soon i promise!
Love to you all
