Hi all!
It's probably not a good time to write as i've just said goodbye to Ang and Frankie and i feel really homesick and upset!! I'm drinking a glass of red so hopefully all will be better soon!
We went to pick up our Mustang convertible from a plush hotel in San Fran, and got told that our luggage wouldn't fit in the boot!! So we ended up with a Chrysler Cruiser convertible (the ones that look like 1930's gangster cars!). I was absolutely gutted until i saw it -really cute girly car! I was hoping that Ang would get behind the wheel first seeing as i've never driven abroad/driven an automatic/driven on the wrong side!!! But i drew the short straw and didn't even get to practice before i was on the hilly roads of San Fran, top down and we were drawing stares from people!!
And i have to admit i loved it!!!! A dream to drive after the polo!! It was hard getting use to the signs, but i didn't crash or hit anyone/thing!
We took Highway 1 towards LA, stopping off to let Frankie wheel spin it in a carpark! There was lots of lovely scenery leading up to the Big Sur and we took a detour through 17 Mile Drive in Monterey which led to a really strange little town called Carmel that looked like the perfect setting for a zombie murder movie!! We got outta there quick and eventually got to the Big Sur where we booked into a romantic cabin like room in the forrest...poor Frankie and Ang couldn't have any alone time!!!
We reached LA quite later than expected the next day, and i got excited as we passed a guy in red swimming shorts and a red float!!!! It was Malibu Beach where Baywatch was filmed! We then got to Ang's friends, Dan and Em's, our hosts for the next few days. And they have been great hosts - thanks guys!! We spent every night getting pretty drunk, meeting bearded weirdos and dancing to a band in a 'Dive' (local pub hangout) and also being driven around and shown the sites. We saw the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars is held, driven down Sunset Blvd, saw the Hollywood sign, and also got a map so we could stalk the stars at their homes!! Wrong, but Dan seemed quite excited about Leonardo DeCaprio's home!!!? He wanted to play knock down ginger (no, not knocking me out!).
LA hasn't really been what i expected - not as plastic or health conscious as i thought! But i've had fun because of the company, and now i've got to brave it alone when i fly to Fiji tomorrow!! Hopefully i can work on some kind of tan! So for now I'm making the most of home comforts at Dan and Em's and i'm now onto my 2nd glass of wine watching American Celebrity Come Dancing....
Hope you're all ok and keep me posted on things at home - i miss ya!
