How sad is it that no one dresses up any more? Not just for parties, but everyday life too. When did it become okay to go to school wearing sweatpants and pajama bottoms? Does that mean that you do not have to look good while at school? Or just that it is too much of an effort to dig up something else from your closet when you have to get up early? Or maybe sweatpants have suddenly become the new fashion staple and I've missed the memo...
And even for parties, most people wear jeans and a t-shirt. If you're lucky the girls will wear a skirt instead of jeans. Whatever happened to floor-length ballgowns, cocktail dresses, men in suits, and getting ready hours before the party started? What happened to that dedication to looking good for a special occasion? When did looking as if you didn't make any effort become the goal? And when did making the least bit of effort to dress up suddenly make you overdressed? For that matter, when did 'overdressed' become a bad thing?
What happened to dressing as if something exciting could happen at any moment? Nothing exciting is going to happen while you're wearing sweatpants! And even if it did, would you want to be dressed in sweatpants when something did happen? I know I wouldn't. And I am a firm believer in the policy that exciting things are more likely to happen if you look nice. Even if nothing happens, I have never found a better way to boost my morale than dressing up. Dressing down too much has a tendency to depress me ;-)
I would rather be slightly overdressed than underdressed. Imagine turning up at a fancy party in jeans...
