We got three buses into the Longji rice terrace area, then had a 30 minute walk along the terraces to our guest house. After a late lunch we had a walk on the terraces, amazing views of the area. It is miles away from anywhere, the local women wear a traditional type of dress and sell shawls and silver jewellery. There was a snake in a cage in the toilet at the hotel. just in case anyone fancies snake for dinner...... we didn't! There was a moment of panic when one of the girls felt something move and Ying our tour leader shouted 'SNAKE' and everyone jumped around the room then realised it was nothing - you had to be there obviously but it was very funny.

We walked along the rice terraces to Pingan which took four and a half hours. It was quite a nice walk apart from all the steps, but again the views were fabulous. Some local women demonstrated their hair!! They traditionally grow their hair incredibly long and tie it up on their head, along with another very long piece of hair that belonged to either their mother or grandmother. After we arrived at the Pingan Hotel Lisa lazed around for an hour or so whilst Ed walked up to a viewpoint above the village. Pingan is more touristy than the first village (Dazhai) but still stunning. In the evening some local women came to the hotel to perform some traditional song and dances. It then turned into a very special evening as Ed got married!!! The local women made us take part in a "ceremony" when lucky Ed got selected to be married off. He was blindfolded then had to choose a "wife" which turned out to be the even luckier Lucy. They had to drink some rice wine and "escape" the rest of us with Ed giving Lucy a piggybag and running away! Before you start buying kettles, toasters and 'his and hers' dressing gowns we have now declared the marriage null and void!

After a 30 min walk to the bus stop we got the bus to Guilin. We had a couple of hours free time where we just pottered around and bought some food for the FINAL overnight train to Shenzhen (Hong Kong).
