Yesterday we left Lawn Hill and headed to Mount Isa. It's about a 4 hour drive with the roads pretty much 50% dirt and 50% tar. Interesting little town. It's a mining town that also has a rodeo tradition - so lots of miners, a few cowboys, lots of utes/4WD, 4 or 5 steakhouse/bar and grills, alot of unit blocks and dongas. Josh and I spent 5 days at Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park. There isn't a word I can think of that describes Lawn Hill to do it justice. It is truly a beautiful and magical place. Today we left Karumba and headed towards Kingfisher Camp. Kingfisher Camp is around 50km east from the QLD/NT border. We travelled back through Normanton (home of the purple pub and 8m crocodile - a replica of one that was shot in the local river). We travelled west to Burketown - stopping at Burke and Wills Camp (119). Yesterday we left Chillagoe and made our way to Karumba. Was 600 + km drive taking about 9 hours. We passed through the towns of Mt Surprise, Georgetown and Croydon - all three towns have a mining history though compared to what these towns would have been like in their glory days they are now just existing. Today we spent the day looking around the Chillagoe township. We went and saw balancing rock which is a huge limestone rock which looks like it is balancing on another. We also went to the Wullamba aboriginal art site nearby. We then went on a limestone cave tour of the Trezkinn cave - absolutely amazing and beautiful.
