Our overnight stay at Charters Towers was nice - the caravan park was nice with cosy sites. They also had some activities for guests. The park also allowed campfires. A popular place for the Grey Nomad types... We left Charters Towers around 9 and headed towards Townsville and through to a really lovely rest stop north of Cardwell. Yesterday we left Narrabri (after a sub zero night) around 9am and travelled to Rolleston (approx 800km). Narrabri was a nice little town - its a shame that the main street had alot of empty shops. We crossed the border at Mungindi and made it into QLD - it was a Sunday and it appeared that the border protection office was closed - so we passed by without issue. Today we left scone and headed to Narrabri - not a long drive (3 hours).. Got to listen to the road tripping CD provided by the neighbours (thank you Tony and Gai).. Today was the first day of our trip.. Excitement definately kicked in. First stop: scone. We left newcastle around 2.30 with the intention of camping overnight at Lake Glenbawn. Good in theory however upon arrival just on dark (sunset was beautiful) we entered the park only to find no park map, no signs and alot of no camping areas..after a call to the park manager to open the gate as it's entry only after 5 (strange but true) we departed and set up for the nig...
