Hello!
So up at 5am wasn't nice, they often tell you to be ready earlier than you need to be, kind of like what we do with you dad hehe.
Anyway so we get to the start of the Alpine crossing and i'm wearing cragghopper walking trousers, layers, fleece and a pac-in-a-sac and the main guy tells me i'll be totally fine, I explain that the trousers aren't waterproof and my trainers now have holes, but still he insists i'll be fine. It was bucketing it down and the wind was very strong. At 2km I was soaking wet, my feet were squelching and it was pretty grim! The others kept me going because I was considering turning back. It's a 18.5km one way walk and it takes 7-8 hours. I didn't enjoy it too much, as I slipped and nearly fell of the side of a cliff. I seriously could have died. It was so icey and snowy that the guide had to help everyone up but he wasn't there when we go there. The emerald lakes were pretty cool and the view was impressive but I was wet, cold and miserable by that point and just wanted it over with! We went to the bar that night to celebrate still being alive!!!
