Today I was booked up to do a day trip to Kanchanaburi. I was not impressed when the van arrived to pick me up & i got chatting to the other people there to find out they'd paid less than me. It was very unorganised & nobody told us what was going on so we didn't have a clue. All in all though it was worth doing & we had some laughs.
First we went to see the POW cemetry of those who died making the bridge & the museum & death railway which was very interesting. I actually almost fell into the river Kwai. There were loads of people on the bridge & it wasn't very safe!
Our group was good & we all got along. There was a german couple, a retired american man, little Paulo & his dad who were french, 2 Irish girls Terease & Gemma & me. We went on an elephant ride - I wouldn't exactly call it trekking. It was good but it ruined it for me when he smacked the elephant on the head. I don't think they were treated very well & i didn't like it. I'll be doing proper Elephant trekking through the mountains when I get to Chiang Mai
We next visited a waterful. Very beautiful but we couldn't stay for a swim because we had to get to Tiger Temple! This was brilliant. I thought the tigers would be tame but far from it, you have to sign a form when you go in saying you understand you may get hurt. The Monks do a lot of conservation work & apparently it's on discovery channel all the time. They bring them out for a few hours for the public to have their photo taken with them but there are strict rules you have to follow. You are not allowed to walk or crouch down in front of the tiger because they may think you're a small animal & attack. I got shouted at because the tiger got agitated, squared up to me & I didn't move fast enough - I didn't know what was happening! I was going to pay extra to go in & play with one of the tamer tigers but they stopped it because it was nearing feeding time & it wasn't safe! When it was time for them to go back I got to walk one of the tigers back with the monk - he was old & the tamest one of them (tiger, not monk).
We all slept all the way back to Bangkok, we were so tired! Not too tired for a drink though so me & Terease & Gemma went out for some food & cocktails but it was an early one. Met some really nice people including 2 lads from Brisbane that I'm going to look up when I get there. The thing with Khao San is that most people are making a move - it's like a halfway house for backpackers & everyone is preparing for their next destination. I'm leaving Bangkok tomorow to head up north. Should be in Laos by 6th May.
It's hot today which I'm glad because I'm still as white as a sheet & the fake tan on my legs is starting to fade ha ha!
Thanks for the messages you lot, I love reading them!
