So botswana is the complete opposite of namibia all you can see for miles is bloody bushes..... We had an interestin start to our time in Botswana.... arrived at camp and had just set up the tents when a storm closed in.... interesting holding onto a metal pole tryin to put a cover over the cooking area when lightening strikes only a little bit away from you.... anyway as you can imagine the @f*** this" wasn't long to come and then we all went on mass inside the truck, only to find moments letar that the storm had well and truly hit and our camp site was flooded tents needed to be moved to higher ground and there was feck all point in going outside with your flip flops on cause the water and mud had pretty good suction and would break yer favourite comfy flip flops you live in each day..... gutted!!!!
After a lovely sleep in a damp n smelly tent with storm going on outside we head into the okavango delta.... worlds largest inland water system.... like anywhere in africa its not the easiest to get to and with the storm the night before it made it an extra fun ride in the truck..... 2 hours later and a pretty numb arse later we get to what can only be described as things that should have been certified as deth traps..... bits of dug out tree trunks that would be our mode of transport for the next two hours!!! So being girls and not wanting to sink me n meredith head for the old man with the mokoro that looks like it doesn't leak.... not giving a damn about any of our other travellers..... two minutes onto the water and tom and blanca are sinking.... oh no..... but also thank feck thats nae me!!!!
The delta is pretty amazing to experience like this, small channels of water that a guy pushes you along pretty much like in venice but surrounded by long grasses.... oh yes and throw in hippos, crocs and lots o creepy crawlies!!! I've not experieced the real camping experience no running water, a hole in the ground, a thin pad to sleep on, oh yes and a snake when you want to go to the toilet at night.... couldna get me out o there quick enough!!!! Watching sunset on the delta surrounded by hippos was one of the best moments, even though the mokoro that time was taking on water and my arse was bathing in swamp ater!!!! The bush walk the next morning was also pretty cool being up close to giraffes on foot.... although the bit where our guide said look cobra tracks wasn't really what I wanted to hear!!!
Onto Choebe and an amazing game drive with elephants although i think the quines would have rather they didna come right up close to the jeep especially cathy given that she was wearing white and red..... the only two colours an elephant can actually see.... Booze cruise at night on the river choebe.... not sure why our group got our own private boat away from all the other paying customers.... we thought it was to get a closer look at the hippos n crocs.... other folk had different ideas!!!
Next day we spent 8 hours bumping around in the truck heading for vic falls.... ten bucks to get some mist in yer face is over rated!!!! Its pretty amazing just now even though its not high flow.... oh yes and you can walk across the top of it.... thats tomorrows expedition along with walking with lions..... might as well have some more dark pants moments!!!!
