I'd love to say the start of 2010 in africa was memorable but I can't even remember waking up... had to ask bec if i had even stayed in the tent the night before!!! The next 8 hours on a truck then just about killed me.... hangover in the heat is hell!!! However the drive is well worth it as it gets us to the starting point for the serengeti and ngorongoro crater days....
Serengeti is amazing, we were there in time to witness the migration of all the zebra and wildebeast across the plains, all you can see for miles and miles is the black and white dots of zebra and wildebeast. Had some amazing lion sightings as well with all the cubs just being born. Camped in a camp site in the middle of the serengeti which had no boundaries to the wildlife.... go to the toilets in two's at night and always take a light to shine and see if there are any eyes in the bushes.... first night a bloody hyeana.... ah real africa at its best!!!
We drove into the ngorongoro crater at sunrise the next day and it has to be one of the most spectacular places I've visited, huge drop down to the crater floor which has animals as far as the eye can see and then the lake in the centre with a pink colouring of flamingo's. Ranger lindsay as I became known was doing lots of spotting with assistant grant trying to pass his exams.... we even had a lesser known australiuan flamingo in our truck at one point oh yes and a dodgy sounding chicken that is definately on her last legs!!!
Our last day is spent at the snake park near arusha, huge bloody snakes with pictures of the humans that have been cut out of such snakes.... oh yeh slept well that night!!!! We had a massai village walk in the morning and then the massai did a traditional dance for us, all the guys joined in doing the jumping and just as i started to get some tingling in my feet thinking yes go lindz go... they say no women can't do this!!!
Last night on the piss with everyone was brilliant... a massai blanket party finishing off all the drink in the cool box... it went downhill when i suggested crocodile and giraffe shooters.... messy!!!! then James thinks it would be hysterical to do an upside down shooter hanging me by the ankles.... have you ever tried to drink a shot with your head upside down.... it doesn't work!!! Revenge is sweet though and when we moved their tent in amongst some others so they couldn't tell which was theirs at the end of the night i think the job was done!!!
So its the last day of my three months in africa and its been bloody amazing, on the whole amazing people, amazing sights and experiences that I will never forget... next stop asia....
