On Saturday, a group of us met our professor Dr. Wright and his wife at the train station and went to Brugge, Belgium. Here we walked around and toured the city. I love all of these old towns here, they have so much history. We had to have a quick lunch so we just ate at Subway. Once we walked around the city for a while we rented bikes and went on a bike tour. It was really hard riding bikes in the town. The roads and sidewalks are cobblestone and there were cars, people, bikers and horses everywhere! Once we got out of town it was a lot better. We biked on a paved path (which was way more enjoyable) to Dammt, Belgium.
On the way we enjoyed the warm, sunny weather which we haven't seen here much, and of course the beautiful scenery. Dammt is known for its windmills and farm land and is really flat- minus the windmills I kinda felt at home for a moment! Once we got into the town we parked our bikes and walked around. We came to another church where you could pay a euro to climb the steeple and get a great view of the country side. Boy was this interesting. It was soooo steep and very, very old and dark. I felt like if I wasn't careful I would have tipped backwards. It seem to take forever to get to the top, but once we got up there it was worth it. It was such a nice day and we could see for miles.
Once we finished our bike trip we stopped and got a snack (I got a chocolate covered croissant, so good) and then took the train a little bit farther to a town called Oostende which is on the coast. Here we took the boardwalk and went to see the English Channel! Then it was about an hour and a half train ride back to Antwerp. We were all exhausted so I slept most of the way. I was sitting next to Kailee on the train and we both were talking about how it's starting to get a little irritating that we can't understand what everyone is saying. On the train, street, grocery store, school… the only people we can understand is each other unless you ask them to speak English to you. It's even more irritating when you know that someone is talking about you because they are staring at you, but you have no idea what they are talking about.
Once we got back to our apartment a few of us congregated in mine, Michelle and Melanie's room to have some drinks and play cards again. I feel like I have known some of these people now for years because we spend every day together. I get along really well with both the boys and the girls, they all are super nice.

Sunday was a very, very lazy day. We finally didn't have class or a tour so we all slept in and loved it! I was able to skype mom, dad and John before they left for church! It was a little scratchy at first, the internet here (esp at the apt, its better at the school) is SO slow so skype is difficult to do. But after they got back from church we tried it again and worked pretty well and it was so good to see them! I was scared I was going to get really homesick after seeing my family, but so far so good! J I've loved it here so far, hopefully that continues! Then I spent the rest of the day getting my clothes and stuff organized again and studied a little. It was nice to just have a day to recuperate after the long week of go, go, go! Next week is class, a chocolate tour and then Ireland on Thursday… can't wait!
