So, now I'm in Singapore. The last night in KL was fun, we went to the Twin Towers and up to the bridge in between the two. It wasn't too scary, I got a few photos and then we all headed back down and went to Pizza Hut, I'm not sure if you've heard of that common South East Asian restaurant? ;o) It was yummy anyway although I really need to cut down on my fast food!
We walked back from there which was a bit of a walk and then got an early night before departing for Melaka. We had a 2 hour coach journey there and had some lunch (everything revolves around food) at a food court. A lot of places have been closed over the last couple of days, due to Chinese New Year. Then we had a bit of a wander in the shops but generally just chilled out before dinner which was nice. Here, we chose to have our farewell dinner as some people were leaving early from Singapore. It was fun and then we went on a boat ride along the river to see a bit more of the city. It was very nice and much cooler in the evening. We strolled back and got an early night before an early start for Singapore the next day.
The coach ride was very bumpy because I got stuck right at the back which was annoying so I didn't get to sleep. We crossed the Malaysia/Singapore border and they let me in :) Then we headed to our hotel which was actually very nice in comparison to the others. We popped out for lunch (of course) and then headed over to Sentosa Island to have a bit of a wander. It was very commercialised and a bit like a resort. It's all man-made but the beaches still looked nice. Then a bit later we met up as a group and watched the light show which was really impressive. They use water/lasers/lights to make faces and characters in the air, it was really clever. It was busy there so we had a bit of a walk up to the Chinese section and then got the train back to the centre, had some food. Then we walked over to Chinatown to see how all the New Year's Eve celebrations were going. There were crowds of people lining the streets and some film crew filming someone peeling mandarins?! After that, we decided we wouldn't stay till midnight, as it would be chaotic so we took a stroll back to the hotel and headed to bed.
This morning was our last official day of the tour so we've been saying bye to a lot of people which has been quite weird. We've all got on pretty well over the last two weeks and a lot of us heading in different directions but I'm sure I'll stay in touch with them and possibly see them along the way. I'm now at the new hostel (now I'm paying) and it's really nice, has free Internet and I've met a friendly girl who's also in my dorm so I'm feeling better about going out to Cairns on my own. This morning we took a bit of a walk around. It was really hot but I really like the city. We also felt compelled to have a 24 Singaporean Dollar (12 pounds) Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel :)
I'm heading out with a few of the remaining group for dinner and some New Year's Day fireworks tonight which will be nice. I'm sure I'll update in the next couple of days.
I hope all is well and Happy Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year :) xxx
