Lin & Phil - Out and About in the Big World...
4 flights later and after far too long without sleeping we arrived in Cairns. Youth hostel is awesome - swimming pool, Jacuzzi etc etc although Lins still adjusting to not having her own bathroom!
Cairns rules - theres a massive communal swimming pool with fountains right next to the sea with barbeques for you to use - the harbours awesome and theres loads of nice bars etc.
Yesterday was Lins birthday and we celebrated it by going out to the reef. We luckily got promoted to a luxury catamaran which we would have had to have paid a lot more for! Still - the journey to the reef was rough with high sees and loads of people were sick! (Lin and myself not included - god bless motion sickness pills!). Once at the reef and with wet suits on - its colder than we thought its the start of winter here. We saw loads of colourfull little fishes including Nemo and corals aswell as some mahussive fish. After lunch we went to turtle reef - yer right we thought i bet nobody ever sees one! - but after about 30 mins we looked down and saw the cameraman with his scuba gear on was feeding a turtle about 6 or 7 metres below us! He slowly tempted it upwards and it came within about 3 metres of us - i went trigger happy with the underwater camera! eventually the turtle came up for air and stook its head out of the water right next to us! didnt ever expect to get so close to one of these in its natural habitat - that made our day!
Bonus ball - we booked our Whitsundays trip on a tall ship we thought we would trat ourselves, but apparently thats out of the water at the moment so we got freely upgraded to the best boat in the Whitsundays - Its a luxury wooden sailing ship! Would have cost a fortune!
Heading to Townsville and magnetic Island now.
Gotta go and catch a bus now.
