Lin & Phil - Out and About in the Big World...
Just been to from Frazer Island - thats the largest sand island in the world by the way. Managed to do about 200 km's of off road 4 wheel driving in a mahuusive Toyota Land Cruiser! Luckily, Anya and myself (Phil) were the only ones that were old enough and willing enough to drive it - it was awesome! we went on some of the inland tracks that were really really really bumpy and filled with really soft deep sand -they were just about possible to drive through although many other 4x4's managed to get really stuck!
Saw a few lakes, swam in a few lakes which were bloody freezing! drank well, slept not so well, saw a load of dingos - theyre wild dogs which are resident to the island and are sometimes aggressive. They managed to kill some kid a few years ago (so when your desperate for a wee and you step out of the tent at 4 in the morning with your #@$#$ out, shine your torch and see 2 green eyes about 20 yards away - you really wish you handnt drank that last glass of wine!).
Dont meen to blow my trumpet but i was the only driver in about an hour of viewing 10 other vehicles trying to drive round Indian Head and getting stuck that didnt get stuck! Very happy with that indeed! However, we did drive to the wrong barge landing for the return ferry ride so we headed back at light speed towards the other one down extremely narrow tree lined tracks. This was the best roller coaster ride ever, somehow the suspension survived - it really did feel like i was in a video game driving like you do in a video game - crazily - only all our arses were usually half way in the air and not on a seat! Luckily after not too long we came head to head with some tour guide who radioed ahead and organised for us to go on the barge landing we were nearest to - the panick was over! apparently we would never have made it to the other one in time!
Writing this in Brisbane, heading to Australia zoo tomo then catching an 18 hour bus ride to Sydney!
