Woke up at 3am this morning and Alicia was stumbling around our room like she was super drunk- and she wasn't as I had a full conversation with her when we got home. She tried to get in my bed, then Leanne's then got in the spare bed upside down and then tried to go into the balcony trying to find the toilet. It was so confusing to wake up but then just flat out hilarious. Turns out she was sleep walking and she did it twice haha.
We got up around 7 and I tried to go to the pharmacy but it was closed which was horrible because my throat is so sore I can barely swallow anymore. We got on the bus and I slept for a few hours and then we had a stop and I gargled salt so hopefully that helped.
From here we had 40mins til we crossed the Albanian boarder and they asked us all to put in some change so they can bribe the boarder guards so instead of it taking us 1 1/2 hours it takes 15mins.
Dax gave us some info about Albania--Blood rule: If someone is killed you have the right to kill any male 13+ from their family. You cannot kill in them in their house though. Apparently there is one house left by the river in a development because there is a man in the there that can't leave the house.
One of the rulers of Albania had it closed off for 20 years! Also by the end of his rule there was on average 11 children in a family, even today the average is 5.
Another interestint fact was that albanians had got really deep into Pyramid schemes, and when they collapsed 70% population lost its saving. They went crazy, and towns started being taken over by individuals. In the end the Italian army was sent in to bring order back to the country.
It started raining which I thought was awesome. We got out and walked to a few bunkers in the mountains. So nice to walk in the rain!
They have a hilarious superstition that evil spirits will enter into unfinished houses, so they hang blown up toys in them like Santa Claus or spiderman. You can see them all across the countryside.
Then we played Mafia bingo which was the first person to see 5 mafia cars. They are blacked out bmws and stand out. A bit scary thinking they could pull over the bus of they wanted.
We had a few little stops but mostly drove all day. The road were shocking it was like riding a donkey but it was so funny so it didn't annoy me. I slept for quite a bit of it but did try to watch the countryside- when I did I was overwhelmed. It's quite beautiful, and just so different. We also drove through natural oil areas that stank!
When we got to Durres our hotel was like a communist camp haha it was bizarre but kind of cool and on the beach at the very end of Durres. We went to the beach but it was pretty dirty and choppy so laid by the pool which was next to it.
One of the girls who is also sick (nearly everyone is) came back from the nearest set of shops and said there was a pharmacy!!! She said to ask for the antibiotic and gave me the name. She said he saw in her purse and was saying €25 for 4 days of antibiotics so she was like no way then she managed to barter him down to €12. So when I went in I only took €15 and I clenched it in a fist so noone could see it. He got the drugs and basically told me to show him my money and I was like no how much is it. He tried to screw me around for awhile but I didn't budge and then ended up giving them to me for €4,5!! Yay.
Came home had a shower then went to the restaurant at our hotel for dinner that busabout put on (we paid for the tour so not sure why they tried to sell it like that). It was soooo gross and I wish I was a vegetarian because their pasta looked amazing. We got mashed potatoe which was from a sachet and dry flavorless chicken breast.
We walked back to the shops and got beers-peroni's are like 60c! And came back and drank by the pool
