So our Scotland trip started last night with the three of us trying to get comfortable for the long bus ride... which turned into hysterics of laughter and silliness... and finally some sleep. But i wish words can explain to you the beauty and awe when I opened my eyes at about 5:30am, looked out the window and ... WOW! PARADISE! It looked like a river of green paint...luscious green mountains as far as the eye can see!
Of all the places I've seen (and i've seen quite a few breathtaking places: Midlands, Mauritius, Ireland, Turkey.. just to name a few......) but NO PLACE had me completely speechless like Scotland! I fell head over heels in love with the place. I swear, i would marry the oldest, fattest, ugliest Scotsman to live there!! I loved the place!! Rona!! What are you DOING in Jhb?!?!??
So we started today by joining a tour group and headed all the way up to Inverness where we are staying tonight (in a backpackers!). It was amazing tho cause we saw the MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENERY EVER!!! We went to Scotland's smallest distillery Edradour (in Dunkeld) where we did the whole whiskey-taste-thing, then had lunch at Pitlochry (a very cute little "dorpie") and visited the pass of Killiecrankie (The battle of Killiecrankie was fought in the first Jacobite uprising in 1689 between William of Orange and the exiled James VII and II. I cant remember where Viscount "Bonnie" Dundee comes into the story, but he was killed just as he wont the battle or something like that....). We also visited the ruins of Ruthven Barracks and then we were off to Loch Ness (a lake in the Highlands) - I was really hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessie (Phillip, that would be the Loch Ness Monster, not your ex...), but i think she was just too cold to come out of the water as it was freezing (as you will see from the videoclips once i've downloaded them!). They say that the existence of the Loch Ness Monster hasn't been proved yet, but neither has it been disproved. I'd like to believe there is a big monster lurking in the waters...
Dinner was really fab - we went to a Mexican restaurant and had some really nice food and some dodgy wine (only one bottle got the three of us rather plonkered!). Afterwards we went to some pub/club/hangout place where really cool live music kept us dancing until late in the night!
See yaz tomorrow!
