My turn to write the journal for a change. Today I faced my fears and did a bungy jump. I never planned to do this, I'd seen Aidan's video enough time to know it was a completely insane thing to do. Then one night after a glass of wine or two I said to Aidan I'll do it. I thought I'd regret it later in life and suddenly decided it was a must do. So Aidan took my word for it and marched me into the Bungy shop when we got to Queenstown. I wanted to do the Pipeline Bungy (102m) which Aidan did 5 years ago but this was closed. So I had the option of doing the 44m one or the 134m one, so I picked the 134m one - Aidan said you have to look like an ant on the bungy for it to look good.
So I booked to do the Nevis Highwire, the 2nd highest in the world at 134m (440ft). This morning we set off, Aidan came as a spectator (I must point out he was not a wimp, he has done this before - but not as high). We got to the site and were shuttled out to the Bungy pod suspended over a cannyon on cable wires. In the bungy pod we got to watch everyone jump through the glass floor, then it dawned on me, I had to do this!
Lucky for me I was the lightest so was the last person to jump. They tied my feet together then the nerves and fear kicked in. I was made to walk to the edge of the platform and I almost burst out in tears. Then the next thing I knew I'd jumped (Aidan thought I would hesitate). The feeling was amazing, 8 seconds of freefall rushing to the ground. I bounced a few time then came the difficult part, I had to pull the chord to release my legs (seems crazy I know). I couldn't find the chord then one leg came out and the other got stuck. But the next thing I knew I'd been winched to the top again. Still I had tears in my eyes, this is one of the best experiences I've ever had. Plus my street cred would now be huge, afterall I've now jumped higher than Aidan!
I know everyone will be gutted they missed it, don't worry I have a DVD where I look like and ant on a bit of string.
Katie.
