We arrived in Darwin at 4.30 in the morning. Because Australia is expensive and we don't have much money we decided to sleep for the rest of the night in the airport.
At customs, they took Katie's banana leaf photo album away to be destroyed. I accidentally smuggled in some fruit though!
Darwin has a wet and a dry season. We were there during their wettest month. It rained for most of the week.
We wanted to hire a car or a camper van in australia but we found out that you need 12 months driving experience and I only have 5.
There isn't much to do in Darwin. It's a big empty place and only 100,000 people live there. One day, Katie took me to one of the main tourist attractions. It was a run down building by the crocodile-infested harbour called 'Pier shopping'. It looked like it had about 3 shops inside. It took us 30 minutes to get there and it was closed.
We went to the Quantas office on the second day to change our flight and get out of Darwin 4 days earlier!
I wanted to see if I could spot any crocodiles in the harbour. Last year the council pulled out 250 crocodiles from the water.
We had cheese and pickle sandwiches everyday to save money.
We had 4 dull days in Darwin and one awesome one. We went on a day trip into Litchfield National Park. We went on a boat on the Adelaide River which is swarming with salt water crocodiles. We were on the bottom of the boat and a man on the top of the boat hung big blocks of meat of the end of a stick. When the crocs heard the boat coming they came over one by one and jumped out of the water to eat the meat. We were inches away from the crocodiles and we could have touched them if we wanted to but they would have bitten our hands off. One of them was more than 6 metres long. Then we went to a crocodile farm and ate crocodile meat. It's like a mixture between chicken and fish. Later on we went to some waterfalls which were really powerful because of all the rain. Then we had a BBQ with Kangeroo meat.
Aidan.
