Ok - so, it's been about a week since I've had a chance to update this thing! Well, now that I have a little bit of free time, I can catch you up to all the things I've been so busy doing!
Yesterday, I visited the Lord Leighton museum, which was sort of cool. BUT the best part about that trip was a block away from the actual museum. Now, those of you who know me, will know that this is very important and cool.
We took a walking tour past JIMMY PAGE'S HOUSE. (As seen above, in the picture I took!!) It was so awesome. I doubt I'll ever come that close to meeting him again!!
The only bad thing was, I wasn't feeling well from the previous evening's adventures. Jackie, Megan, Traci and I had all decided to visit Soho for the evening. It's notorious for its night life and parties, which we wanted to at least say we'd tried to experience. Well, we ended up meeting some bar tenders and having drinks with them after their pub closed. This would have been fine, but for various reasons I decided to leave early. I ended up walking home by myself on the seedy streets of London at 2 a.m. VERY interesting.
I was propositioned to buy drugs at least one time, and another time I had to hide at a bus stop from a guy who was following me and kept grinning in a really creepy way. Believe me I will NEVER walk home late again by myself!!
Earlier that day we spent a rainy morning and afternoon it the seaside town of Brighton. This would have been a gorgeous town full of Regency and Georgian architecture, except that it poured the entire time we were there. On the up and up I did get to drink a Bloody Mary for lunch and I saw a pug dog while I ambled around the shops! She was really cute, but it made me miss my Henry.
One of my favorite things we've done so far in England was the trip to Christies Auction House. It was full of amazing and beautiful works of art all on the auction block. The very best painting in the house, at least for me, was Prince Maurice by Gerrit Van Honthurst. I don't competely know what it was about the painting, but the minute I saw it I felt like someone kicked me in the stomach. I could not tear myself away from it to save my life. If I could have, I probably would have stolen it off the wall and walked out with it under my coat.
After visiting Christies, my other class took a trip to the Hindu Temple of London. This place is gorgeous. Everything is carved white marble and natural wood. The best part was having to take our shoes off upon entry. My feet were hurting so badly and that made it way more enjoyable. I also really liked the sitar music being played in the worship room. The only thing I really disliked about the place was that it had a huge gift shop in it. For whatever reason, that completely rubbed against my grain. Religious Piety + Temple for gods = Profit-earning gift shop? Hm, sounds a little insincere to me.
This Blog is continued in another entry.
