Spent the whole of today in and around Milford sound which was nice. We got to a tunnel and the light remained red for ages, our driver got out and apparently there had been a rock slide the other side and no one knew if we could get through.....so our driver decided to try! We were all looking at eachother sideways but when we came out the other side there was just a lot of dust in the air and no rocks so obviously nothing major..
We got on the boat and instead of being allowed to enjoy the boat trip, were sent to eat out buffet lunch(!) The boat set off and there's 50 of us missing Milford sound as we're giving ourselves indigestion shoveling our lunch - really odd thing to do we thought!
By the time we'd got out, we were already out to sea and had missed the whole trip through the Sound! (Boring fact alert: Milford Sound (and Doubtful Sound) aren't actually Sounds but Fjords - (Val I now know what a Sound is so will update you if you're interested). See you don't just get trip notes but education on this site!! Hehe plenty more boring facts where that came from - get me started on christmas around the world and I'll go on forever - eg. Germany and Holland have 2! Hollands St Nicholas is skinny, rides a white horse (which he arrives on on a boat from Spain) and has human sized black men deliverying the presents on the 6th December! And they leave their shoes out by the chimney and (get this) if there's no chimney they leave them by the radiator!! That one killed me! And that's just Holland!
Anyway back to Milford. So, luckily on the way back we went to the same spots and also stopped off at an underwater observatory. We then headed to a huge waterfall and pulled up right in front of it. I had a photo taken and the wind was so strong it looks like I've been electrocuted! The best of my peacock shots yet! I had to delete it after people kept creasing up and were asking me what I'd jumped off of...hmmmm!
So we headed back to the coach and on the way back we got to see a small avalanche and finally got to see a Kea Val! I didn't realise how big they were and suprise suprise it was hanging around a car park waiting for a parked car to rip to pieces!
Arrived back in Queenstown that night and met up with the others who had stayed while I'd gone south. We just sat by the lake and caught up on what everyone had been up to, watched the sunset and tried to work out why the stars were upside down and if in fact they were even the same stars. I know nothing about stars apart from they're pretty but people were swearing we were looking at some constellation or other but upside down. Exhasuted and none the wiser we had an early night as have 5 nights in party central ahead of me! Yay!
