Banos was a tourist town. Famous for there being a active volcano bubbling above it and also the hot sprigs. Allot of Ecuadorians go there for breaks. The tourist map was cool as it gave escape routes and told you what to do when the volcano erupes. Anyway every store was som sort of place to hire bikes of quads or tours of all sorts of activities. I decided to give rafting a go. The river was bigger than usual as the had been alot of rain. The drive to the river was interesting as there was allot of land slides. Small ones i.e the hole road wasn't covered but something you don't really come across in Glasgow. We had to get changed in some wooden building that was something out of a horror movie. There was 7 in the group. We set of and it was fun. The river was flowing so fast the was a roar from the rocks on the river bed all moving and bashing of each other. No one fell off so we didn't get to practice the rescuing techniques, which i wanted to see people make an ass off and fall in to. We did a half day which was dissapointingly short but my arms were killing me so probably a good thing. I spent a few days in Banos but as the weather was crap didn't really get up to much. Anthony when his own way and headed back to Quito for his flight home.
I headed to the bus station to start getting my ass in gear as time was running short and i still had allot of places in south America to see. I got a bus to a place called Cuenca. The bus didn't get far, just outside town. We sat there for about half an hour then i eventually found someone that spoke English that explained to me that there had been a massive landslide cutting the town of. Apparently this was very common so they normally manage to clean it up quickly. The bus driver waited for about an hour then gave up. I went back to the hostel and bumped into some Irish girls who were going to try get out later that night. I decided to go with them. We sat at the side of the road waiting for a bus for around an hour. A local told us it was still closed. We had to stay the night. So first thing in the morning we went to the bus station and got a bus. They were going the same way as me. The journey as long so once in Cuenca we went straight to a hostel which was another hostel that was basically a bar with bedrooms. The girls went out but i was tired so went to sleep. In the morning i decided to just got get another bus to the next town as there was more interesting stuff further south in Peru. I had to bargain with the hostel as the girls were in bed with hangover and were past there check out time. I said goodbye then headed to the bus station. I got a bus to Loja then grabbed a night bus to Piura in Peru. The bus was crap and was like a uk bus so my sleep was non existent. Plus at 4am we had to do our border crossing. I had an argument with the guard who was convinced i was from Ireland as the passport says United Kingdom And northern Ireland. Eventually i agreed and went on my way. He spoke no English so i was never going to win. The bus got to Piura around 7 or 8am.
