Today we have had a pretty chilled out day exploring the island. We walked from our beach Velha Boipeba to Praia Morere and beyond. It took us Id say about a good 3-5hrs of walking and exploring. On our way back we came across a tent on the Beach selling fresh lobsters. Now who could resist that? At just R$20p.p ( R80 ) we had about 5 each, served with farofa and grilled in a delicious lemon/lime sauce. Accompanied with a bottle or 2 of beer and it made for a perfect afternoon meal sitting on the beach watching the waves breaking before us.
Sunset was spent kayaking across the lagoon to the other beach. The setting sun painted the still water with reds and pinks and oranges and all that could be heard was the sound of................HONK!!!! HONK!!!! As romantic and lovely as this sounds you have to be very aware of the current that runs through the bay. It may seem very still on the banks of the lagoon but be warned that its pretty wild in the middle, hence the reason that I almost got sucked out to see and run over by a speed boat. Not only were my arms in agony from all the frantic peddling but my ego seriously injured too.....aw.
That evening we went to explore down town. The tiny down town of Boipeba is just basically pousadas ( hostel , B&B ) , restaurants and shops set around a soccer field. There you are able to mingle and meet people quite easily as everyone gathers for dinner and drinks before heading off to one of the beach front parties. A beer on the island ( Big bottle ) will cost you around R$ 4,50. A can about R$ 2,50. Another really delicious dish to try is the Mokeka. Its made differently in the South then here in the North. Its a dish made with fish or shrimp or mixed seafood. Its cooked in coconut milk and usually pretty spicy, the secret is supposed to be the palm oil they cook with. The Bahians love hot food and so chilli is something it is added to almost all their dishes. Its accompanied with rice, beans and salad. Its a feast fit for a king and and can serve 4-6. It'll cost ya R$65 ( R260 ) for the meal.
