So we finally arrived in Boipeba, which is an island situated off the coast of Bahia btw Salvador and Ilheus. It took us a good 7 hours from Salvador. First we took a taxi from our hotel ( Ibis ) which cost R$40 , then the ferry across to Itaparica, R$3.75 per person. After that you have to take an bus to Valenca, R$13.45 per person. The buses leave from the bus station right outside the ferry port. You have to be quick to grab tickets or else you will have to wait more then an hour for the next bus to leave. Be warned: The buses have no air conditioning and in the humid Bahian weather can be very uncomfortable. When we arrived in Valenca we took a taxi to the port , R$10 , where we would then take the boat out to Boipeba island. There are 2 types of boats going there, the fast and the slow one. We opted for the speed boat which cost R$35 per person.
When we arrived we took a 10 min walk along the beach and up the hill to our B&B. Its name is Casa Mestica and its really beautiful. The lady that owns it Carol, is originally from France and has done a great job with the place. Its situated in a jungle type atmosphere. The rooms are basic but decorated so nicely , you can really see the personal touches that have been put in. In peak season you are looking at about R$200 per room per night. The breakfast here is amazing. Carol bakes everyday so you can always be assured of having fresh breads and cakes at breakfast time.
