Hooray! We are safe and sound here in Tajimi with the wonderful Hiroko Yamazaki and her family. Tonight we will be making homemade okonomiyaki for dinner!
Funny story of the day: We took the JR line to Tajimi and today is Sport's Day, a holiday, here in Japan. Also at the station they were celebrating an arts festival. And who should I see right outside the JR exit in a booth of his own? Iku-san! Iku-san is the talented ceramics artist that I have met when going to Japan with MSJ. Both times we got to view his artwork and also make our own tea cups in his studio, where he would bake and glaze them for us. Iku-san is an incredibly talented and kind man, and he even recognized me and remembered my name! So that was a funny coincidence. I only know so many people in Japan, one of them I was expecting to see, the other a pleasant surprise!
We finally met up with Hiroko and her family and they took us to the historical village Tsumago. It is a really pretty, old village settled among the mountains and was a stop along the road Nakasendo that lead to Tokyo. There are still functioning inns there to this day, but most of it is tourist-y and gift shops. We ate at a soba restaurant where I had some nice, cold soba. Hiroko mentioned that it has been unseasonably hot. I agree, I have been really sweaty (and a bit sunburned).
That's all from me, pictures to come later. Anything from you, Jeph?
Today, I saw a bird. It was doin' like this: /birdnoise
