We set the alarm this morning because we planned to do the zoo and then drive to Bourke! So we were out just after 8.30am. The Dubbo Western Plains Zoo was just down the road - we had allocated ourselves 3 hours to see everything - Dad and Eamon had bikes, while Mum & Renee were on foot. The circuit is about 6km and we saw Rhinos, Giraffes, Lions, Kangaroos, Koalas, Elephants, Camels, Antelopes, Emus, Lemurs, Hippos, Tigers, Zebras and gigantic Tortoises. Our favourite was the Siamong Ape family entertaining the crowd by swinging deftly around their little island of ropes and trees.
Our speed-visit finished at 12 noon and we were on our way to Bourke. We passed through Narromine and Trangie before stopping for a late lunch at Nyngan. All the towns were quiet on the very straight road to Bourke. We saw more emus, kangaroos and wild goats than cars!
We arrived at Kidman's Camp around 5.30pm and enjoyed a refreshing swim in the pool. It's a lovely caravan park with lots of shady sites.
