Well, the rain that was forecast certainly arrived - it poured all night, and continued most of the day! We have been very lucky with weather, so we just sat under the awning and watched for a couple of hours and had bacon & egg rolls for brunch. We decided we should go somewhere, so took the scenic slower route and traversed through lots of beautiful rainforests - the rain making it look so much greener as well. When we got to the Triplet Waterfalls it was pouring with rain, but we had 3 umbrellas, a rain poncho and a rain jacket - it was actually quite fun walking through the ferns in the rain. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at the falls - they were cascading violently down with all the rain we'd had the last 12 hours. Amazingly, there were a bunch of surfie type teenagers making their way down the edge of the falls - one slip and they would have been badly injured if not drowned. As we made our way upwards, Renee & Eamon enjoyed tossing the odd leaf into the water and checking how far we could all see it as it travelled down the quick rapids towards the tall waterfalls.
We took a quick trip to Hopetoun Falls - still raining, but only 20 metres from the car so very easy, then went onto the pretty Barwon Reservoir in the Forrest area. There are lots of mountain bike tracks in this area, and we wanted to check out their difficulty as we may do 1 or 2 in the next few days - we have to plan a bit more as our holiday is coming to a close very quickly.
We stopped for a quick late afternoon tea at the very quaint brewery in Forrest, with bicycles hanging from the rafters, and lots of old photographs and an eclectic mix of furnishings. Mum & Dad had a beer, while Renee & Eamon had hot chocolates and large brownies. The drive home was misty/foggy/drizzly and felt like a winter's day, but when we got back to camp, the sun came out and it was really steamy. Renee & Eamon enjoyed some catching practice and we met our new neighbours (who used to live in Kununurra in WA!).
