From Rotorua we headed onto Waitomo for a day where we got pciked up to go 'Black Water Rafting'. We were given layers of thick wetsuit, a helmet with a headtorch and a harness, so you can imagine we were looking pretty fly... The first thing we had to do was to absail 60 metres underground through a tiny hole in the ground, it was literally only wide enough to fit a person through! Once we were down in the caves it was completely pitch black and the only light came tfrom the thousands of gloworms that hang from the ceiling! We then had to take a zipwire deeper into the cave where we got to the underground river where we were given rubber rings and ahd to get into the freezing cold water and float further into the cave. Once downstream we were taken through sections of the cave where you had to squueze through the smallest gaps and at points you could only crawl through the water because the ceiling was so low! Had to look after Billy a bit because he was getting pretty claustrophobic... To get out of the caves we had to climb up a series of waterfalls that had formed in the cave, which Kerris wasn't too happy about and very nearly got swept down one!! By time we got out it was dark outside so the only way you could tell we'd left the cave was that you could see stars instead of gloworms!
The next day we headed to Taupo and spent the day chilling out by the lake which is amazing. Lake Taupo is so big you can fit the whole of Singapore in it! The next day we all had a day of recovery from our big night before and got up to go to the Hot Springs which were incredible- literally the water is boiling hot, it's like getting in a bath! and the views were amazing. the day after we went to a really remote lovation called River Valley, which suprise suprise is in a steep river valley. We stayed at this really homely lodge with a 32 man dorm which we all slept in (snuggly or what?) and even got a massive roast dinner which was HEAVEN after all the crap we've been eating recently! Never been so excited to eat vegetables in my life! It's meant to be an awesome place to do River Rapids but we decided we would save it for Queenstown as we've got loads of days there, so instead we took advantage of the spa they had and went in the hotub and sauna!
Today we've arrived in Wellington (which is the capital city) where we are staying for 2 night before getting our ferry down to the South Island!
Hope alls good back home and wishing all uni people who have exams coming up luck in those
(unlucky guys... haha)
Miss you all X
