So we set off on the 6th, to start our kiwi experience! Had a really early start and drove a few hours to a place called Hot Water Beach. Despite the dull and rainy weather we still donned our wet clothes and all got into swim gear, and headed out to the beach. At the beach you were able to dig up a hole by the rocks and unearth boiling hot water!! And I mean boiling, it would literally burn your feet!! So bizzare. So we spent the afternoon digging our own hotubs in the sand and adding sea water to it to make sure we didnt burn alive! Was so unique... Despite the weather being pretty cold, we still did a big group run into the freezing cold sea afterwards... spent the evening just chilling out and watched three movies which was such a nice change from Australia!! The next day we were up early again and our first stop on the bus was at these old abandoned gold mines, which we got to take a hike through and were actually really interesting!!- plus was nice to actually get some exercise (yes I'm calling it exercise...) For lunch we stopped in Hobbington which is the set for the Shire in Lord of The Rings and got some photos next to the scene and the statue of gollum they have that actually looks nothing like him... This evening we got taken to a Maori Village where they taught us about the Maori way of life, and even performed the Haka for us which was awesome! Tomorrow we are going Caving and Black Water Rafting underground where there are meant to be millions of glowworms which is meant to be a highlight of New Zealand so cannot wait! xx
