hello again. sorry i did not get to finish the update last time i was on...... i ran out of time so i had to quickly log off. So i will continue the journal starting from.....
26/3 - We got up nice and early and ended up not having to pay for the campsite as the owner did not come home from the pub the night before. We set off and there was a horrid chill in the air so we put plenty of layers on. We had some gruelsome hills to get over and it was not just get to the top of a hill and free wheel down it was up and down up and down all day. Pretty knackering. so after 40.97 miles we made it to Middlemarch. we found out there was a local swimming pool so we went for a swim which didn't last for very long as the water was freezing. take away fish and chips to end the day and a few beers...yummmm
27/3 - it was the start of the rail trail. It was am old train line that ran from Middlemarch to Clyde and it was taken apart and is now used for cyclist, walkers and horse riders. it was a gradual uphill all day and the terrain was gravel. not too bad but still a few potholes to look out for. really good fun and great to have no cars!!! it was really exciting as we had tunnels to go through and long viaducts. I was amazed at how much work went into making the rail line, doing the trail really made me appreicate how much work they must have done. it was a beautiful day so we had our sunnies on and it was funny because when we got to the tunnel we forgot to take them off and everything was pitch black and actually quite spooky!! (goodness knows how many creepy crawlies where in there hiding from the sun i was scared to put my feet on the floor hahah) After yesterday we found the slight gradient easy peesie so we zoomed it all the way to Ranfurly it was a total 28.14miles. the day had turned out to be a scorcher so we were glad to get out of the sun. Oh yeah seen lots of traps on the trail and it was for stoat and i seen one trapped inside. I felt terrible cycling off and leaving it in there to die off heat and starvation poor wee thing :(
28/3 - Woke up to mist but it still turned out to be yet another glorious day. Hot sun, amazing Viaducts and two long tunnels. It was a great day both really enjoyed it. Arrived Omakau 35.86miles at 2.30pm. got to the campsite and had a look around. I sat on a chair in the kitchen which as soon as my bottom touched the seat me and the seat fell straight through. Ouchhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I could not move jonny an this old man were trying to help me get up but i had hurt my back. I really hoped that i hadn't done too much damage as that was the last thing i wanted! After a few tears and the pain eased i manged to lift myself up off the ground. Jonny put the chair away so no-one else could do the same. i was glad it was me it happened to and not the old man that was in the room with us as he would really of hurt himself. oh well a wonderful meal cooked by jonny and a big bottle of red wine soon made it all better. hee hee
29/3 - Another free night camping!!!! there was a big school group in and i think the owner must have thought we were with them so we kept quiet and packed up and left..... i didn't want to pay anyway after the fall off the chair!!! So back on the rail trail and it was all down hill to Clyde we stopped off in Clyde for a bit and found an awesome little picnic spot right on the top of a hill over looking the lake. Once we set off again the road was horrible. Busy and not much room between cars and a big cabled barrier on the otherside we wished they would not have them as we would rather fall into the lake if there was a crash than have our legs scraped along the barrier. Views were amazing however we were both concerntrating loads on the road and the drivers!!41.02miles to cromwell.
30/3 - reat day... both totally shattered. Jonny done some work on the bike and i updated journal and bit n bobs. we had a really good night!!! we had a party for two in the room with another bottle of wine dancing around the room and having a right laugh!!
31/3 - woke up to a weak body (maybe it was all that dancing the night before hahah) but once i had a shower i was ready to get back on that bike and do some miles! Made the best lunch ever. Bacon, egg, lettuce, tomatoe, cucumber bagguets. Cycled to Tarras head wind and once we got over the cluden hill we found a spot to camp, tucked away on the side of the road in amongst some trees that no one could see us. right by the river. we bumped in to the French couple again and they said that it would be a great place to camp but the carried on cycling. so jonny and i went for a dip and as there was not a sole in sight we thought we would be quite daring and go in naked hahahaha so we did and it was such a laugh the water was freezing.....(these pictures will not be put on the site) hahahahaha Had a great night sleep.
1/4 - Something was busy in the night rumaging through all our stuff....little mice i think. packed up and porriage on route. Cycled to the top of the Lindis Pass the last bit was steep but we got there. Fast and wicked down hill all the way to Omarama 42.77 miles.
2/4 - woke up and had a three day shower as we are going to be camping rough for the newt few days. Cycled to Twizel where we had ice creamm and went shopping for 3nights worth. lovely day not a cloud in the sky. On to Lake Pukaki. Domain campsite with stunning views of Mount Cook. I think we were really lucky because the weather was great and the views we had were out this world.28 miles.
3/4 - we were going to cycle to Mount Cook but the weather was groggy and it is a cul-de-sac which means we would have to come back on ourself. we wernt up for that so we headed on to Lake Tekapo. Cold day even though the sun was shinning.
4/4 - cycled to Geraldine 57.52 miles the last section we got a bit knackered. but we got here. Both really sleepy and cant wait to get in the tent.
5/4 - rest day went food shopping and everything that we wanted was on offer brilliant thats what we like!!!!
6/4 - bad start to the day i was still sleepy and wanted another rest day but we got up and dried the tent and headed to the shops to get food.........oh nooooooo they are all shut as it is good friday!!! so we went back to the campsite put the tent back up and had take away fish in chips for lunch as they shut early and soup for dinner as we only had that left!! (i knew we should have stayed in bed)
7/4 - well not much better woke up to rain so we have taken another day off and here i am updating the journal again. hahaha oh well maybe we will get going tomorrow.
