Yippppeeee we have made it to New Zealand!!
Well............... after an enjoyable week the the Lochheads, out\r rime had come to get back on a plane for the 3rd time! We were up at 03.00am this morning and in the car for 04.00am. The roads were nice and quite at that time (maybe we should have cycled at night time other than day when we were there) Got to the airport about 05.00am and checked in with no problems. Air New zealand was our carrier and i have to say they were great. Bike boxes are classed as checked luggage and if you take a bike you get an extra 10kg on top of the 20kg so that was fantastic. One box was 24kg and the other was 28kg and we were not charged!!! Brilliant! Everything was closed at the airport as it was so early so we never got our pint of shandy at the airport (which was just as well because i dont think i could drink it at that time in the morning) hahah The plane journy was really god and fast!! mind you we had both fell asleep woke up for breaky and then back to sleep again. When we woke up the plane was landing!! As soon as you get off the plane the dogs are out and sniffing away, there was so many of them. We collected the boxes and went through to customs and "anything to declare" So we got some more stamps in the passport (our passports look really good, looks like we have been to so many places) And then we had to declare a few things. They are really strict over here as well as Australia. No food, bulbs, dairy, meats, seeds and alot of things need to be checked for example our bike and tent! There looking for seeds that may be attached to the bike and what kind of state the bike looks (ours of course was lovely and clean) so we had no problems and to chuck our cheese sandwich and garlic clove that we had and that was it.
We went to the vistors desk and used one of the free phones to call a hostel we already had our eye on and they came and picked us up in no time and we our now at the hostel and jonny is putting the bike together!
I tell you what....do you ever get that feeling when things don't feel right? Well we both had that feeling from the moment we landed in Australia. We just felt like there was this atmosphere that just did't sit with us!! From the moment we landed in Auckland we loved it. We just have that feeling that this is going to be a really enjoyable trip down to the south island and we are both frantically excited to get back on that bike and do some touring and seeing some amazing sites! I'm mosting looking forward to getting fit again i feel like iv'e put on a little during the xmas and new year and those Lochheads......the food was delish i just kept wanting more (and so did Alex hahaha)
We landed at 12pm there time which means we are even more ahead in time with you all back there. There are two hours ahead of Australia which must mean we are 13hrs ahead of you all!! The weather is really nice today apparently the next three months are the hottest out here which is around 20-30 degrees which will be fine the cooler the better!
Well friends and family I am going to go and see what Jonny is up to and go get something to eat. Hope everyone is still well. Please keep your fingers crossed for us, that it all goes well and the drivers are nicer to us!
