WE'VE MOVED INTO OUR OWN FLAT!As of 19th Novemeber 2012, Natalie, Nadine and I moved our massive backpacks, our tired bodies and our excited faces from Syndey city centre down to Coogee! Its 20 mins on the bus but as it was my BIRTHDAY we took a taxi to celebrate. Coogee is a cute little suburb of eastern Sydney with its own beach and bay, and is 10 mins from Bondi! We've got ourselves a lil studio flat, with our own kitchen, bathroom and couch with tv :) We couldn't be happier, especially since we've spent 3 days in an awful 10 bed hostel room and suffering a mega come down after surf camp.
We stayed in Wake Up hostel since coming back from surf camp, and checked into a 10 bed mixed hostel room. After being at surf camp for 5 days, sharing a cabin with our friends and having 3 meals a day made for us, heading back to the city was pretty sad. Nat, Nadine and I went up to our room and were greeted by Ed. Well, where to start with Ed! To make it short but visual for you, in the three days we were there, he barely left the room, slept the whole time with his bum crack out and when he was awake, ate dirty kebabs, burped and pretty much smelt. Nat and Nadine both agree with is "pretty acurate" so its not just me! He was awful, always there, and so smelly. The rest of the people in the room were ok but almost all of them had been in the room for a good two weeks straight, setting up their own lil kitchens next to their beds, getting drunk every night and leaving the room in a state that I can only compare to a bomb going off in a liquor store and charity shop combined. Two of the girls were actually really nice and chatty but we couldn't bare being in the room any longer than sleep took and so we kept busy house hunting, job hunting and seeing the sites of Sydney. Ten bed hostel rooms may be cheaper but after 3 days, I think the $9 dollars extra a night for a 4 bed room might have been worth it if we were staying any longer.
Luckily, we soon found our own place! Firstly, we had to say goodbye to the rest of our BUNAC group, which was sad as we'd just spent two and a half weeks straight together, including two long haul flights and a week in our wetties at surf camp. All of them were heading up the east coast, some all the way to Cairns and the rest to Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise. We were feeling pretty jealous of them all going up the coast but there's just so much to do in Sydney and I need some more money so when I do go up the coast, I can chill and not have to panic about getting a job straight away. Nadine, Natalie and I decided to stick together as we all have the same kinda idea of what we wanna do. After many hours of internet searching, texting landlords and a lovely flat slipping through our fingers, we finally found our current home at Coogee beach :)! Getting out of the city is so refreshing, and the land lady is an aussie and seems more than happy to have us. And with the beach two minutes from our flat, we would be crazy to look else where (though we had a crazy hour of doing just that, and sat on the pavement outside another flat for almost half an hour deliberating before running almost a mile back to our current flat to put our deposits down before anyone else did!).
So now, a week later, we've explored the area, been to four different beaches, been snorkelling, had a random aussie make us a sandwich whilst sitting on the rocks, had a BBQ at the beach, experienced the night life, crashed a house warming party and made friends with some people in our building - oh and it really is a small world, the two nice girls from our hostel room live in our building!
Edit : I forgot to say what we actually did for my birthday! The night before, the 18th, we went to see COLDPLAY! They were sensational, and everyone had a wrist band that lit up at different points during the concert. Ive never seen anything like it and the videos can not even compare to how it looked in real life! And then on the actual day we moved in as said before, then I headed out for a quick scout out of the area and to do some washing at a laundrette as I hadn't had time in the city. When I came back Nat and Dino had decorated the flat with banners and balloons and chocolates! We munched on the chocolates as we got ready and got a bus back to the city centre where we met Olivia (best friend from home who's also here) and went for dinner at Darling Harbour. It was so pretty at night with a view over the harbour and; I had some delish lamb kebabs (on a stick kebab) and a margaritaaa. We then went to the Guylian chocolate cafe for some amazing hot chocolate, chocolate puddings and champagne. It was so yummy and I had an brilliant time, I'd recommend the Guylian cafe to anyone that likes chocolate!
Australian birthdays are the best!
