We left Matthias' and headed to Marienplatz square to find the bike tours and also watch the animatronics that come alive in the New City Hall. They are like the little characters in Shrek that sing and dance, minus the singing. There's music that goes along and they go in a circle and spin around...one Bavarian knight on a horse even knocks down the Austria one...fancy. Apparently it's the third most overrated tourist attraction in Munich; I wouldn't say it's anything great to see, but it was only like 15 minutes long so it was cool to see. We ended up standing right by a walking tour group so the tour guide talked about it the whole time and we were able to hear about it all - at the right place at the right time! We then met up with Mike's Bike Tours and were split into two groups; avoided the lady from California in high heels who requested a pink bike with a basket...don't need to say anything else. Our guide was from Australia and alright; overall we liked Fat Tire a lot more. It was a good tour though, we got to actually learn more about the monuments we'd seen and listened to A LOT of history, a little too much of my liking. There was this American couple with an adorable little girl who rode in a backseat attached to a bike that provided a lot of entertainment. Chad and Ashton were pulled out of the crowd at one point to act as statues in front of everyone, and Chad was once again "Ass Man," although this time he got a frisbee for free instead of a tshirt. We ate at the Beergarten again and got a big pretzel with some cheese that was recommended to us, and of course a liter of beer again. We sat with an Australian couple that had been traveling for one month and still had a whole month longer on their trip. They were really cool and I'm pretty sure very close to our age. The girl had just quit her photography job and reminded us so much of Alexx, and the guy had gone to quite a few places in the US already. We then drunkenly rode back, saw the surfers again, and rode along the Isles River. At one point there was an area that is a designated nude area, totally saw an old lady naked laying out. Not to mention earlier, when we rode through the Englisher Garten we stopped at one part that was another nudist area and there were quite a few older men stark naked laying out in the grass. The Englisher Garten was beautiful though, and Central Park in NYC was modeled after it. It's a total of 896 acres so it's massive, but every part that we went to was packed with people.
After the bike tour, we grabbed some ice cream that we had been eyeing since our arrival in Germany and then caught the subway to the Olympic Stadium. It was pretty awesome and Ashton said there was a terrorist threat there - have to research that one! There's a huge Olympic Tower so we took the elevator up to the top (thank goodness it wasn't stairs) and got to see a pretty awesome view of all of Munich. We then attempted to find a restaurant that served some beer that Drew had told us was awesome, but the restaurant was nowhere in site, so we found this burger place that looked really good. We ended up waiting forever to be served and figured out 30 minutes in that you had to go up to the bar to order food. The wait was well worth it though - the burgers were SO GOOD. And very filling.
After dinner, we headed back to Matthias and packed up our stuff and showered. I FaceTimed the family and we decided to not go out because Ashton had to get up super early to catch her flight. We are taking these two days to rest up before the rest of our trip! Only halfway done!
