Bonjour! From that im sure you can tell we are in Montreal. The journey from New York was 10 hours, but it passed fine, were getting used to these long journeys now! We could definately tell we were in Canada as soon as we stepped off the train, it was freezing and we soon realised everything was in French. I think we'll cope okay with the language, as we managed to find our hostel in record time, pretty good going for us, especially as all the road signs were in French. Our hostel Chez Jean is located in Mont Royal, which is a stylish cosmopolitan area of Montreal. The hostel itself is very different from what we are used to so far. Its more like a house, very homely and laid back. Everyone is really nice and made us feel welcome. What we soon noticed about Canada is that it is very safe and everyone is very trustworthy, the guy at the hostel was suprised when we asked him for a key to our room! The change of pace from New York was very different and was much appreciated.
On the first morning we thought we had better pay for our room as they hadn't asked the night before, very unlike the United States where they wanted your money before we had even walked through the door. The owner was very welcoming and more interested in us having our free breakfast than taking our money, so we made sure we filled up! As we had found a pub on the internet that was playing the Boro V Man Utd game, we set off to find it. It was a long walk but we made the second half so Lee was happy even though they lost 2-1. When Middlesbrough scored Lee jumped up in celebration as the pub sat silently, much to Lynz's embarassment!! For the rest of the day we took it easy and stayed in the Mont Royal area getting used to our surroundings.
The next day we woke up after a well deserved lie in (it was Sunday) to find it was snowing. It didn't stop us going out though. We stayed local as we just wanted a lazy day. Today we are going to visit the sights of Montreal and probably not do too much as we are just enjoying the slower pace in Canada.
