Day 16.
Felt rough from the night before so slept in as best we could. Eventually we decided to go out and face the day. At the tourist info place I was told that the white water rafting can only take place on the tamer of the 2 rivers as water levels we too low on the best one. I decided that if I’m gonna pay a lot to do it, I’d rather go straight for the best stuff so I’m going to see if we come across it somewhere else.
This left me with very little choice but to do some of the sicker activities or none at all. I’m blaming my hangover for my lack of adventure because I completely wimped out. I couldn’t face being dangled off a cliff in the heat as I already felt grim and didn’t like the idea of feeling worse.
Instead of the action packed day we planned, we decided to go up the cable car to this massive complex which sits on the cliff above Queenstown. I was really impressed with this place as the views were stunning (see pics) and there was so much to do up there (restaurant, paraglide off the side, helicopter ride, luge, cable car, bungee jump). We had 3 goes on the luge, which is like a go cart without an engine which you steer round a really steep course. I decided to make up for my lack of adrenaline rush earlier in the day and really go for it. Although I managed to get 2 wheels off the ground cornering and take off down one slope, I didn’t crash so I couldn’t of pushed the limits all the way! Duncs started off like a bit of a granny, but on the last go he did eventually give it some beans finishing only 10 seconds after me J .
With evening approaching we decided to make up for our lack of partying in the quieter resorts and hit the town again. I bumped into a guy who I went to school with (Paul Kenwood) in one bar and it turns out he’s working at a hotel there - small world. The locals are pretty into their pool and Paul mentioned a few busy places locals go to so that we could have a change of scenery from the previous nights backpackers club. In the busiest one me and duncs dominated the pool table playing them at doubles much to their disgust and the only way they could get us off was to rob us by claiming the 2 shots rule didn’t exist in NZ.
After being robbed at the pool table we headed back to the popular traveller bar, but came across a casino on the way so stopped in there for a little while. I lost an amazing $6, whilst duncs took another little $20 hit - hey big spenders! Had another pretty late night at the club.
