Woke up very hung over after a random un-planned night out in Beijing with az, feeling rough but soldiered on to the forbidden city after smera Dragging us out of bed at 9, an only getting in at 5! Gooood night though at a Chinese nightclub called 'mix' only spotted 4 westerners and spent most of the night with the Romanian girls we met :) oh, other than trying to chat to random Chinese girls without much luck in the weirdest atmosphere of my life! Another experience to add to the list though. It was like a school disco, girls one side, boys the other except the men all sat at tables absolutely laden with alcohol. It must be a status symbol decided by the amount of alcohol you have on your table some of them had 3 or 4, 10 litre bottles of whisky, ridiculous! And while they sat there the girls danced pretty shyly on the dancefloor, thd only girls dancing on podiums or remotely provocatively were western! Haha surprise surprise! Considering how much we had been paying for beers, this place charged 40 Kwai a beer! 4 quid man! Worth it though, such an experience and spoke and had a laugh with a group of Romanian girls living in china, have stayed in contact with them so may see them again which would be good. The forbidden city was incredible, so vast and so much history that I need to read up on. After a couple hours there we wandered round the city, through various hutongs Which are the first buildings to be built in Beijing an like small alleyways where people live in tin huts with animals everywhere. We then headed to find the wangfujing district which is where the famous food markets are where u can buy and eat anything and everything from turtles to octopus and whole ducklings but tucked into a whole snake wrapped around a skewer, beef and vegetable dumplings, whole shell-on crabs and octopus! Yum! The wangfujing district is one of the richest parts of the city where all the designer shops are and businessmen walk around, god to see but absolutely knackered and still hanging so a few beers at the hostel and an early night before the great wall tomorrow!
